Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct sets expectations for participation in Cortlet communities, repositories, discussions, issue trackers, contributions, events, and other collaborative spaces.

The goal is to maintain a professional, respectful, useful, and welcoming environment for everyone participating in Cortlet projects and communities.

This Code of Conduct applies to public and private spaces operated or moderated by Cortlet where people interact in connection with Cortlet projects, products, software, documentation, or community activity.

This may include source-code repositories, issue trackers, pull requests, discussions, community servers, support channels, social spaces, and other official Cortlet environments.

Participants are expected to:

• communicate respectfully and professionally;
• provide constructive feedback focused on ideas, code, documentation, behavior, or technical issues rather than personal attacks;
• respect differences in experience, background, skill level, communication style, and perspective;
• assume good faith where reasonable while still raising genuine concerns clearly;
• keep technical discussions relevant and useful to the project or community;
• respect reasonable requests from maintainers or moderators;
• accept correction when mistakes are identified and make a reasonable effort to improve the interaction.

Unacceptable behavior includes:

• harassment, intimidation, threats, stalking, or targeted abuse;
• discriminatory, hateful, or degrading comments directed at a person or group;
• personal insults, repeated hostile behavior, or deliberate humiliation;
• sexual harassment, unwanted sexual attention, or inappropriate sexual content;
• publishing or threatening to publish another person's private information without authorization;
• impersonation, deceptive identity claims, or deliberate misrepresentation of another participant;
• deliberate disruption of discussions, repositories, support spaces, or community activity;
• spam, repeated unsolicited promotion, or irrelevant commercial solicitation;
• encouraging others to engage in harassment, abuse, or other prohibited conduct.

Disagreement about architecture, code quality, APIs, design, implementation choices, documentation, product direction, or technical decisions is normal and permitted.

Participants should challenge ideas directly without turning technical disagreement into personal hostility.

Issues, pull requests, code reviews, and other repository activity should remain relevant to the project and should contain enough information for maintainers and contributors to understand the request or problem.

Maintainers may close, lock, move, edit, or remove discussions that are off-topic, duplicative, abusive, misleading, or inconsistent with project requirements.

Contributors are expected to submit work they are authorized to contribute and to comply with the license and contribution terms applicable to the relevant project.

Contributions should not intentionally contain malicious code, hidden functionality, stolen material, compromised dependencies, credentials, secrets, or other harmful content.

Sensitive security vulnerabilities should not be publicly disclosed through ordinary issues or discussions where doing so could create unnecessary risk.

Suspected vulnerabilities should instead be reported through the appropriate Cortlet security or contact channel where one is provided.

Participants must respect the privacy of others and should not publish private communications, personal information, credentials, private repository material, or other non-public information without authorization.

Cortlet maintainers and moderators may take reasonable action to protect the quality, safety, and usefulness of Cortlet community spaces.

Moderation decisions may consider the severity, frequency, context, and impact of the conduct involved.

Depending on the circumstances, responses to violations may include:

• a private or public reminder;
• a request to edit or remove content;
• removal of comments, issues, posts, or other material;
• locking or restricting a discussion;
• temporary restrictions on participation;
• removal from a Cortlet community space;
• permanent restrictions for serious or repeated violations.

Cortlet may act immediately where conduct creates a significant security, safety, legal, or community risk.

Participants may report conduct they reasonably believe violates this Code of Conduct.

Reports should be made in good faith and should include enough information to allow the situation to be understood and reviewed.

The reporting process must not be used to knowingly submit false allegations, harass another participant, retaliate against someone, or manipulate moderation decisions.

Retaliation against someone for making a good-faith report, participating in a review, or raising a legitimate concern is not acceptable.

Cortlet may handle reports as confidentially as reasonably possible while still allowing the issue to be investigated and addressed.

Information may be shared where necessary for moderation, security, legal compliance, or the protection of affected participants.

Maintainers may make reasonable decisions regarding repository participation, contribution acceptance, discussion management, and community moderation.

A contribution, issue, feature request, or discussion may be declined or closed even when no Code of Conduct violation has occurred.

Participation in a Cortlet project does not create a right to have code, documentation, feature requests, issues, or other contributions accepted.

Project maintainers retain discretion over technical direction, scope, roadmap, releases, and contribution decisions.

Cortlet communities hosted on third-party platforms may also be subject to the rules, policies, and terms of those platforms.

A participant may therefore be subject to both this Code of Conduct and the applicable third-party platform rules.

Cortlet may update this Code of Conduct as projects, communities, moderation needs, or legal requirements change.

The current version will be published with an updated "Last updated" date.
