DMCA & Copyright Policy

Last updated: September 13, 2026

1. Copyright Policy

Cortlet respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users of Cortlet websites, software, services, repositories, developer tools, and other resources to do the same.

If you believe that material made available through Cortlet infringes your copyright, you may submit a copyright complaint using the process described in this policy.

2. Copyright Ownership

Unless otherwise stated, original Cortlet website content, documentation, graphics, software, branding, written material, and other original works are protected by applicable copyright law.

Copyright notices used by Cortlet may appear in forms such as:

Copyright © Cortlet

The absence of a copyright notice does not necessarily mean that a work is not protected by copyright.

3. Open-Source Software

Certain Cortlet software, source code, libraries, tools, or components may be distributed under open-source licenses.

Where an open-source license applies, your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute that material are governed by the applicable license rather than by any general restriction stated elsewhere on the Cortlet website.

Information regarding applicable open-source licenses is available at /legal/licenses.

4. Submitting a Copyright Complaint

If you believe that copyrighted material has been copied, published, distributed, or otherwise made available through Cortlet in a way that infringes your rights, please provide a written notice containing sufficient information for Cortlet to evaluate the complaint.

The notice should include:

  • your full name and contact information, including an email address;
  • identification of the copyrighted work that you believe has been infringed;
  • identification of the allegedly infringing material and enough information for Cortlet to locate it;
  • the URL, repository, page, file, project, or other location where the material appears, if available;
  • a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the complained-of use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or applicable law;
  • a statement that the information in your complaint is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner;
  • your physical or electronic signature.

5. Accuracy of Complaints

Copyright complaints should be submitted only when you have a genuine and reasonable basis to believe that infringement has occurred.

Knowingly submitting false, misleading, or materially inaccurate copyright claims may result in legal consequences under applicable law.

6. Review of Copyright Complaints

Cortlet may review copyright complaints and may request additional information where necessary to understand or verify a claim.

Where Cortlet determines that action is appropriate, Cortlet may remove, disable access to, restrict, or otherwise address the material identified in the complaint.

Submitting a complaint does not guarantee that content will be removed.

7. Notice to Affected Users

Where appropriate and legally permitted, Cortlet may notify the person or organization responsible for material that is the subject of a copyright complaint.

That notice may include information contained in the complaint to the extent reasonably necessary to explain or resolve the issue.

8. Counter-Notifications

If material you provided has been removed or restricted because of a copyright complaint and you believe that action occurred as a result of mistake or misidentification, you may contact Cortlet with a written counter-notification.

A counter-notification should include:

  • your name and contact information;
  • identification of the material that was removed or restricted;
  • the location where the material appeared before it was removed or restricted;
  • an explanation of why you believe the material was removed or restricted by mistake or misidentification;
  • any statements or information required by applicable copyright law;
  • your physical or electronic signature.

9. Restoration of Material

Where legally appropriate, Cortlet may restore material after receiving a valid counter-notification unless the complaining party takes further legal action or Cortlet determines that restoration would violate applicable law, Cortlet policies, or the rights of another person.

10. Repeat Infringement

Where appropriate, Cortlet may restrict or terminate access for users or accounts that repeatedly infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

Cortlet may consider the nature, frequency, severity, and circumstances of alleged infringement when deciding what action is appropriate.

11. Third-Party Platforms

Cortlet may publish software, content, or documentation through third-party platforms such as source-code hosts, package registries, video platforms, or other services.

Copyright complaints concerning material hosted directly by a third-party platform may also be subject to that platform's copyright or takedown process.

12. GitHub and Public Repositories

Some Cortlet projects may be hosted through GitHub or other source-code hosting services.

Where allegedly infringing material is hosted by a third-party repository provider, that provider may maintain its own DMCA or copyright complaint procedure in addition to Cortlet's internal process.

13. Trademarks

This copyright policy does not establish that any Cortlet name, logo, product name, or other identifier is a registered trademark.

Cortlet may claim rights in names, logos, branding, and other identifiers under applicable trademark or unfair-competition law where such rights exist.

Nothing on this page should be interpreted as representing that a Cortlet mark is registered unless Cortlet expressly identifies it as registered.

14. Other Intellectual Property Complaints

Complaints involving trademarks, patents, trade secrets, privacy rights, contractual rights, or other legal issues are not necessarily governed by the DMCA process.

Such concerns may still be reported to Cortlet through the appropriate legal or contact channel.

15. No Determination of Ownership

Cortlet's decision to remove, restrict, restore, or leave material available does not constitute a legal determination regarding copyright ownership, infringement, validity, or the rights of any party.

Disputes regarding ownership or infringement may ultimately require resolution between the affected parties or through an appropriate legal process.

16. Abuse of the Copyright Process

You must not knowingly use Cortlet's copyright reporting process to harass others, suppress lawful material, make false claims, or interfere with legitimate use of copyrighted works.

17. Preservation and Disclosure

Cortlet may preserve information relating to a copyright dispute where reasonably necessary for legal, security, operational, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Information may be disclosed where required by applicable law, valid legal process, or where otherwise permitted under the Cortlet Privacy Policy.

18. Changes to This Policy

Cortlet may update this DMCA and Copyright Policy from time to time to reflect changes in applicable law, Cortlet products, reporting procedures, or operational practices.

The current version will be published with an updated "Last updated" date.

19. Contact

Copyright complaints and related legal notices may be submitted through Cortlet's designated legal or contact channel.

When submitting a copyright complaint, include all information reasonably necessary to identify the copyrighted work, locate the allegedly infringing material, and contact you regarding the complaint.
